Walk at Malham

Today we took all the new students for a walk at Malham. This is an opportunity for all the students to meet each other and also for the staff to get to know them. We were lucky this year with the weather as it was hot and sunny.
The first point of interest was Gordale Scar. This used to be a massive cavern which has now collapsed. This makes for some really exciting sports climbing although there are no easy routes here.

After this we made our way up to the top of Malham Cove. The vertical face of the cove is about 260 feet and there is a deeply eroded limestone pavement at the top.

After spending some time at the top we made our way down to the pub for some lunch and a beer.

Arran fieldtrip

I am currently on, the Arran Field course which has a record number of students, 61. I have spent most of the week out on the two boats with Mark and Ian. Today the wind speed reached about force 6 so it was quite exciting at some points in the smaller boat. The students all had a good week and everything all seemed to work out very well. We even got a mention in the local paper.
